Compounding was a commmon practice in years gone by, and is enjoying a resurgence because of its ability to offer additional treatment options to improve patient care. Bitterroot Drug has two certified compounding professionals on staff and recently expanded our compounding pharmacy room in order to offer a wider range of services.

Prescription compounding provides specific dosages or ingredients that are not available commercially. Compounding can also eliminate the need to take many multiple prescriptions by combining ingredients into a single dose. Other patients, such as children, may require medication in a liquid, lozenge, or transdermal cream if they are unable to swallow a tablet or capsule. Still others may want to add a specific flavor or eliminate a potential allergic reaction to an ingredient in existing medications. And finally, compounding is regularly used in veterinary medicine, where a variety of dosing options may not be available.

Pharmacists Greg Dowling and Pete Seifert of Bitterroot Drug recently completed training at the Professional Compounding Centers of America school in Houston, Texas. Bitterroot Drug is happy to offer this personalized service to customers, and committed to providing high-quailty compounded medications in the dosage, form and strength prescribed by the physician.
